After the song, Pledge, prayer and Four Way Test, Jan announced that Grant Leveridge would be inducted as a new member in the near future. She also thanked our group for the fun birthday celebration we shared with her last week.  Jan then reminded us that our Board of Directors' meeting is February 12 and our speaker on February 13 will be Julie Morgan who will discuss and demonstrate 3D printers. Jim Baldwin was Sergeant at Arms and fined Pat Rice for being interviewed and photographed by local media with no Rotary pin in site and no mention of Rotary in the write-up. There were two empty seats up front so the group at the back tables were all fined, as were a number of members who insist upon yacking during the announcements, even though they have been warned over and over again not to.
Semilla Nueva Update
John Verity and Dennis Hanrahan, shown on the right in the photo, sent an email to President Jan last week with an update for us:

Hi Janet, I thought I would send you an E mail in case you might want to update our club.

Dennis and I are fine, and are in good hands with Curt, his girlfriend Jostfina, and several members of the Hermita Club. We got a new partner from the club because at least one of the original 3 was too busy to help.

We spent the day in the field today visiting seed growers , seed farms , and a seed distributor.
Tomorrow we are going to work our way back to  Guatemala City and then Dennis and I will head to Antigua and Lake Atatlan and then back to Boise on Sat.

The thing we see in our visits to the Semilla Nueva office and on site visits is a lot of enthusiasm, commitment , and respect.

There is a big Rotary Project Fair in Antigua in January 2020. I have been to a Project fair in Quito several years ago. It was grand fun. Maybe some of us should plan to attend and then visit Semilla Nueva next January.

See you next week.

John, Dennis, Curt, and Josephina.

Hearts in Service Gala
Hillcrest Country Club was the site of this year's Gala, hosted by Lisa Vincent, who threw one of the best parties I have attended in many years! After a forty five minute Happy Hour, a delightful dinner of prime rib or salmon was served. After dinner, President Jan, Peter Robbins and Terry Bowman awarded a number of Paul Harris Fellowships and it was announced that Erin Yturri is this year's Bob Gibb Fellow. Click the Click Me! button below to see photos of our honorees. After the dinner concluded, the group retired to a mini casino where the cash flowed. Lisa insured that all losses were promptly covered with an infusion of new funny money and a great time was had by all
Guest Speaker
Dr. Fred Wood, Representative from District 27 in Eastern Idaho was our speaker. He did an excellent job of breaking down Prop. 2, Medicaid expansion in Idaho and funding for the elderly, disabled children and expecting mothers. The terrific part about his presentation was that he gave it in plain, simple, easy to understand English, which helped make the entire process very understandable.
