Bonnie Helms kicked off our March 27th meeting by introducing our guests: Visiting Rotarian Mary Reiman, Bill Johnson and David Hawk's gaggle of guests-Dave Wilson, Dr. Kathleen Arusio and Dr. Mark Barton. Con Colby's guest was Dick Graybill. Andrea Thornton pitched our Spring Fiesta (details right) and Rod McDowell said there are still 80 spots open(!) so you need to get signed up ASAP. Auction items, desserts and wine are still needed as well. President Jan announced that we would have two booths at the District Convention, one that celebrates our club and a second one that is devoted to the Rotary License Plate program.

Marshall Baker announced that our members donated 431.5 hours of their time in February doing good things in our community. Bob Rose has raffle tickets to be sold before the District Convention. First prize is a $4,500 AAA travel voucher. The Rotarian that sells the winning ticket gets another $4,500 and her or his club gets an additional $4,500! Raffle proceeds are distributed as follows: 50% to district matching funds, 25% to youth exchange and 25% back to our club. David Hawk was $5 happy because of something having to do with cookies.

David then introduced our speaker, Dr Mark Barton of the Idaho Geologic Survey. His topic was Oil and Gas Development in Idaho and he touched on state agencies and their roles, oil and gas formation, exploration and development and seismic imaging. He then went through a fascinating explanation of the drilling process and finished up with an in depth look at well drilling in the Payette area. It was another terrific presentation.

I received information from Mary Reiman from Boise Metro about two fun projects that she invited us to join in.
Ride to End Polio:
People of Action, Join Us!

May 18th, 2-4 PM, Boise

During District Celebration (Conference) in Boise, May 18th, we will be hosting a Ride to End Polio, 2-4 PM, raising as many pledges as possible to rid our planet of polio!
Where: Downtown Boise, Center on the Grove Plaza, steps outside of D5400 convention center!
When:  Sat., May 18th, 2-4 PM
Who:  Rotarians / non-Rotarians recruited to be on a Team...people who can ride a bike for 5+ minutes. Maximum 20 Teams; first-come / first-serve! Deadline for Team Registration:  May 1st, 2019
What:  All Rotary Club Teams agree to have a minimum of FIVE riders who will ride, a minimum of five minutes May 18th, 2-4 PM.  All bikes need to stay in motion at all times (OK, 1 min. transition time for seat adjustment is fine).
How:
Creating a Fund-Raising Page!
Each Team Captain will create ONE, unique Team Fund-Raising Page with ONE goal ($$$) amount through RI website. All Riders use that Team Name (example: Boise Metro Polio Pedalers), to solicit pledges from family, friends, co-workers, etc.
Team Captain! Use this link to set up your Team Fund-Raising Page: Call Mary for instructions!  http://ideas.rotary.org/Project/Profile/65dbf3e7-17bf-44ad-8caf-cb3f8735f6a1?GadgetAuth=b4bef88f-a413-4de0-82a4-ec2fe8200d28
Donors can pledge online as soon as your Team Pledge Page is created and shared.
Teams are encouraged to wear festive / thematic bike riding attire...there are awards for these things! Wear tennis shoes or SPD cycling shoes, shorts, etc.
Day of event: Team members will meet at 1:45 on Center on Grove, ready to ride. Teams determine order of riders and how long each rider will pedal; five-minute minimum ride time. Riders can come and go as they want.  The more people there CHEERING and COWBELL RINGING, the more ENERGY and FUN!
Team riders will gather as many pledges (online, checks, cash) as possible before and day-of ride, May 18th.  Teams raising most money (online and day-of) by 5 PM May 18th will be recognized at evening Rotary dinner ceremony as Winners. Awards for Best Outfits / Most Enthusiasm, etc. will be given as well.
Pledges will be accepted online until May 31st; High-Pledging Team will be recognized again June 1st
