President Jan kicked off the meeting by asking Jim Baldwin to fill in as Sergeant at Arms. He did an average job, stumbling through the song, Pledge and a lengthy prayer without incident. He then turned the mic over to Rod McDowell, who introduced visiting Rotarians and guests. Mike Fease then explained his game of skill again, then Conrad Colby came forward and on behalf of the Boise Southwest Rotary Club Foundation, presented a check in the amount of $1,000 to our own Joanne Taylor, Chief Development Officer of the Girl Scouts Silver Sage Council. Jan then reminded us of upcoming events:
  • January 23-Kathy Pidgeon, GM of the Riverside will update us on remodeling and the future of the Riverside
  • January 30-New Garden City Elementary School briefing and Paul Harris Fellowship presentations
  • January 31-Last Thursday, 4:00PM at the Sockeye on Fairview
  • February 9-Hearts in Service Casino Royale Celebration
Jim Baldwin took back the mic and stumped the group over the alter ego of Pauline Phillips. Several happy dollars were raised as well.
Guest Speaker Joanne Taylor
Joanne gave her classification talk, which proved to be quite interesting and amusing. She invited young Penelope Koefed (left) to the stage where Penelope announced that she would sell one thousand boxes of Girl Scout Cookies this year. Penelope passed around an order form while Joanne continued with her presentation.

Joanne grew up in Las Vegas and had a very unusual childhood. Her father was an orchestra leader for all the stars in Vegas so Joanne spent countless hours back stage and in the orchestra pit. Along the way she met many big names including Rich Little and Tony Bennet. Joanne got her BA in Journalism and her MA in Communications at the University of Nevada, Reno. She worked in various industries involving entertainment, gaming and event promotions. She got to meet and get to know many celebrities along the way and shared with us personal photographs of her with Credence Clearwater Revival, Wayne Gretzky and George Foreman. She then moved to Boise and went to work for Trus Joist McMillan in PR before becoming Chief Development Officer at the  Silver Sage Girl Scouts. Joanne broke down the organization and its activities and led a lengthy Q&A session.
