Welcome to the Rotary Club of Boise Southwest
Lisa Vincent led off our February 13th meeting by introducing our guests: Rod and Linda Pucinelli, visiting Rotarians from California,  former DG Marianne Barker, Dave Shaw's guest Brian Bechtel and Rod McDowell's self described "Gaggle of Guests" that included his daughter and granddaughter. After the introduction of guests, Terry Bowman presented Jim Brandstetter (right) with his Paul Harris plus 3 award as well as a Paul Harris for Jim's wife Gwen. Several of our Rotarians of the Month were recognized at our Hearts in Service Gala last week. To peek at a photo of them, hit the Click Me! button below.
Mike Fease announced that Pat Rice won $83 in the Game of Skill and John Verity and Dennis Harahan gave us a report on their trip to Guatamala to check on the Semilla Nueva Global Grant project. During their visit, they met with our partner Rotary Club as well as the folks at Semilla Nueva. They also visited a co-op, a seed producer and farmer and a seed distributor. They hope to be able to complete a needs assessment with the Guatamalan club shortly.

Marshall Baker reminded the group to continue to keep him up to date on our volunteer activities and the group then gave Lisa Vincent a hearty round of applause for her hard work on the Hearts in Service Gala.

Kicking off the Sergeant at Arms segment, David Hawk bid $25 for red roses for his valentine and Julia Bowman pitched in $20 for a vodka infused valentine cake. Numerous other Valentines goodies that were provided by Andrea Thornton were picked up as well. John Williams was $5 happy that Tim Gammill repaired damage to John's house and George Weissbeck was happy to have played Texas Holdem with Nick Yturri, who struggled because he thought they were playing blackjack! Dennis Hanrahan was glad to be home from Guatamala and Dave Shaw was happy because a former Rotary Exchange Student from ten years ago is coming back to Boise for a visit. Andrea Thornton then made everyone happy by reporting that there would be a general slowdown on fines with more emphasis on happy dollars.

Our guest speaker was Julie Morgan, STEAM Director at Cole Valley Christian School. Julie's team focuses on science, technology, engineering, art and math and she brought several students with her to talk about their school. Juiie's daughter Natalie, aka Rod McDowell's Granddaughter, walked us through the use of a 3D printer. She showed us a prosthetic leg that she made for a dog as well as a couple of Rotary tchotchkes that the class made for us. Then they gave us a terrific demonstrations of three different robots that they had made in class. All in all a terrific program!
