News of Boise Southwest Rotary
A Big Rotary Welcome to Kati Carberry, who joined our Club this past month. Kati was born and raised in Idaho and grew up in a family that enjoyed being in the outdoors. Kati's passion for river, lakes, and streams has led her in a career working for the Idaho Department of Environmental Quality's Surface Water Program. Kati and her husband Kevin enjoy running; traveling; and spending time with their niece, nephews and fur baby Runa. In her free time Kati coaches for Girls on the Run and created the the "Boise River Boogie" now called the "Wild River Dash". Be sure to introduce yourself at our next meeting and welcome Kati to Boise Southwest!

Rotarians delivered Crumbl Cookies to the staff of the Boys and Girls Club this month -- all in appreciation for their work with area children and chosen by Rotarian of the Quarter, Frank Greene, who selected their group as his charity of choice. Featured above are Rotarians Janet Worthington, Frank Greene, Janie Best and Mosely Center Boys and Girls Club Unit Director, Noel Bolduc. Their Club is a short distance from our regular meeting location at the Riverside Hotel in Garden City.
Frank is a long time Rotarian with Boise Southwest, a past Director, and coordinates our website activity and Membership Directory. Congrats, Frank!

In honor of Bonnie Helms, Rotarian of the Quarter, our club delivered Crumbl cookies to all the guests of the Boise Rescue Mission, including both the City Light and River of Life facilities.  Jason Billester, Vice-President of Development for Boise Rescue Mission, gave the visiting Rotarians a tour of both homes. Pictured are Rotarians Janet Worthington, Janie Best, Bonnie Helms, and Jason Billester.
Bonnie has been a Rotarian since 2014. While she participates in many projects, she has contributed greatly to our club's participation in Lobsterfest, a multi-club fundraising activity. She exemplifies the Rotary motto of "Service Above Self" in her daily life. Congratulations Bonnie!
The Rotary Club of Boise Southwest has been supporting Whittier School for many years. Because of COVID restrictions and virtual education, we've not been able to invite students to activities like the fall pumpkin patch, holiday luncheon, and swim lessons at the West Boise YMCA as we ordinarily would. Recently, we brought some Valentine's joy to all the students and educators at Whittier with a Crumbl cookie delivery!
Rotarians and family assembled cookie boxes for each classroom so that each child would have a special Valentine's treat. Special thanks to Kyle Woods, Boise Southwest's Community Service Chair for organizing the event, and to Andrea and Nicholas Thornton and Janie Best for helping bring cookie joy to our students!

Tim Goebel was inducted into our club this month! Tim and his family recently relocated to Boise from Goleta, California, where he was a member of the Goleta Rotary Club. Tim owns "Neighbor Tim's BBQ" which features Santa Maria style BBQ. He is currently scouting out locations for his new operations in the Treasure Valley, and looks forward to serving up some delicious Q to us all soon! A Big Southwest Rotary Welcome to Tim!
